get ready for a GIANT change in richmond

It's official. Ukrops has been sold to Giant food stores!!! thoughts? comments??

also while discussing this with a friend, we came to a realization that there are a lot of unwritten laws about shopping centers and shopping malls.

In every Ukrops shopping center there must be an ABC store.

In every Food Lion shopping center there must be a chinese take out place.

What other ones can y'all think of??

Hound looking for a home

My cousin and his wife currently have a 3 and 1/2 year old 100 pound male hound named Ruck. He is house broken, neutered, and crate-trained. The dog gets along great with adults but does not get along well with kids, especially their newborn. They are looking to give it to someone because the SPCA won't take it. They can be reached at sobergirrl@yahoo.com. Please do not reply to here because I do not know anything more then what I have posted here.

Oils for hard candies

I was told by a friend to get Lorann Oils for Hard candies. However it appears to only be sold online. So I once again call out to you old faithful RVA community. Given that I need this in like 2 days, the internet isn't really possible, what stores in the Richmond area sell excellent oils for hard candies??

(no subject)

Alright. So, my last two New Years I went to Carytown to see the ball drop. Before that, I lived in Newport News.

What I'm asking is: what else is there to do in Richmond on New Years? What are you doing?

Thieves

Somebody stole an 8 foot Jack Skellington figure from the home of a friend of a friend, and apparently a couple other movie-related figures as well. Since Jack was chained to the porch, the a-hole had to use bolt cutters, so it wasn't just a spur-of-the-moment prank. I guess this went down on Saturday night some time; near West End vicinity.

If you see or know anything about this, please get in touch via LJ.

There's got to be a special place in hell for people that would steal Christmas decorations.

Bad Memory

A few years ago I purchased a headlight assembly for my car from a supplier somewhere in the area. I believe I asked for recommendations through here and someone suggested this place... seems to me it was in an industrial suburb of sorts, not somewhere easy to stumble upon if you aren't in the know. The price was significantly cheaper than what my dealer had available, and they had it in stock. They were great to work with. Incidentally I am now looking for another headlight for my car (1995 Toyota), but can't remember the name of the seller.
Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Career Counseling

Any good career counselors around town? Chesterfield or Henrico? I looked at some local "career counselor" websites and then googled their names -- scammers.

Old National Geographics for sale

I've happened into a couple hundred issues of National Geographic that run from the 1950s to the 1990s that I need to sell. Some of the issues from the '70s and '80s I have 2 or 3 copies of.

Do you guys know of any bookshops around the area that buy them? Or know someone who'd be interested in them?

Fooooooood.

What would you say are some the nicest restaurants in Richmond? Places where you would dress up to go.

Thanks!

Important Question.

Does anyone know who was shooting video outside of Alley Katz during/after the Best Friends Day show of Strike Anywhere?

A friend of mine observed what he believed to be an illegal arrest, and when he requested the officer's badge number, he was arrested as well. The cop made up some shit about this kid trying to get the whole crowd to attack him, and now he's on trial for inciting a riot.

The maximum sentence is 10 years, and whoever was shooting that video has proof of his innocence (and proof this cop is a lying piece of shit who would rather put innocent people in jail than abide by the law he's sworn to uphold).

Please get in touch as soon as you can via LJ message.

Body shop

I'm looking for recommendations for a good body shop. I live in church hill but i'm willing to go just about anywhere in richmond. i've gone to conner brothers before and liked them, but they were really expensive- unfortunately this time around i'm paying out of pocket. i'm looking for someone who can maybe work with me and is honest about what exactly HAS to get done in order to get my car back in driveable condition, as opposed to looking exactly like it did before taking an '86 cadillac to the face.

thanks rva!

natural hair dye

Does anyone know of a salon that uses natural (no ammonia/paraben free) hair dye?

Hairstyle on the Cheap

I need an up-do hairstyle for a holiday party this weekend. My normal hairdresser charges $75 and up for such, but since it isn't a life changing event I'm not willing to pay more than a maximum of $50 (preferably no more than $30.) Does anyone know of a place where I can get a decent, cheap up-do around Richmond? I'm looking for something along the lines of a french twist.

Thanks!

banking

I'm looking to move away from Wachovia. I have a primary bank (credit union) in another state, so I'm just looking for something basic - no maintenance fees, withdrawals / deposits. Also would help to have good customer service, decent interest rate on savings, and whether there are promotional interest rates or any other promotions going on now.

I've heard good things about Virginia Credit Union, but was wondering whether there is anything else you could recommend.

thanks!

Clothing Donations

Hey y'all! It's getting awfully cold outside, and I have a lot of clothing that I would like to donate to those in need. What are some of your favorite places in the rva area that accept gently used clothing for the homeless or sell donated clothes to effectively garner capital for community reinvestment? (I have a lot of women's clothing and shoes.)
